Our mission at Tim Peck for Congress is to solve problems by listening and working with people no matter what party or walk of life they come from. We pledge to serve all of the residents of IN-9, not just those in our own party. We believe social progress is possible with sound fiscal responsibility.
Tim and his wife, Missy, chose to raise their family in New Washington, Clark County, Indiana, near Missy's family. Missy is from the district and their son Cass was born in district too. They have been accepted by the community and own a 40-acre farm, volunteer on the New Washington beautification committee and the Mustang Run Club, bank at New Washington State Bank, support local businesses, and have hired employees from IN-9.
Tim grew up in a family dedicated to serving others. His father, a Vietnam combat veteran, built and ran the first veterans' shelter in the US and ran homeless services for the Salvation Army. His mother ran liturgical operations at a large Catholic Church. Both of his parents were principled people with strong beliefs, but consistently worked with those who they disagreed with to create meaningful change. Tim eventually followed in their footsteps to live a life of service as a doctor, advocating for patients in Washington by working across the aisle. He then transitioned to become an entrepreneur, building mission-based companies to serve patients on a much larger scale.
As an Emergency Doctor, Tim saw firsthand the struggles that our most vulnerable populations face when it comes to accessing quality healthcare. About a decade ago, Tim left his position as a doctor and teacher at Harvard Medical School and immersed himself in the world of nursing homes by living in one for three months—an eye-opening experience that revealed the profound need for change in how we approach healthcare for seniors. Inspired, he founded multiple mission-based healthtech companies and physician practices that focus on serving those in nursing homes, homecare, assisted livings, and at the end of their lives in hospice and palliative care.
Tim founded a company that created telemedicine technology and treated patients in nursing homes, improving quality and decreasing costs. The company avoided thousands of unnecessary hospitalizations and saved lives that otherwise wouldn't have been saved. This saved Medicare millions of dollars and got the attention of Congress. Tim then worked in Washington with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to introduce legislation to advance telemedicine, testify as an expert witness to Congress, and educate Congresspeople and Senators on healthcare reform. When the pandemic hit, much of the work Tim and his colleagues did was adopted and allowed telemedicine to help reach millions of people who were isolated and sick. He learned that there are no politicians against better care at a lower cost; there just hadn't been loud enough voices calling for what needed to be done. He will be a new voice to lead us to new solutions and has the track record to prove he can get the job done.
IN-9 is a traditionally moderate democrat area that began to swing toward voting Republican about ten years ago. Amazingly, the pendulum has begun to swing back toward the middle, and in the 2023 election, many local seats that had been held by Republicans flipped to Democrats, including mayors, town council-people, sheriffs, and prosecutors. The media market of most of IN-9 is from Louisville, Kentucky, where moderate Democrat Andy Beshear won as well. The district also borders Ohio, where progressive wins happened, too. IN-9's largest city, Bloomington, is largely Democrat and provides a solid base.
Women voters will be extremely important in 2024. They have already been mobilized by Republican Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita who is up for re-election. Rokita recently prosecuted a doctor for practicing reproductive health on a 10-year-old victim of sexual assault. He targeted a doctor for saving a little girl from future trauma in favor of a culture-war.
The IN-9 Republican chair and county sheriff was recently arrested for a series of fraudulent acts, generating distrust in the local Republican party. The stage is set for this district to turn back to a common-sense moderate community with Midwestern sensibilities—and Tim will lead us there.
